Well, to be honest with you, I was pretty impressed with this event, I mean I wasn’t really expecting too much from a dnb event in a pub. But anyway, I thought ‘should be a laugh…. I’m not driving for a change and it’s a Planetdnb night’ so I was up for it!
We turned up about 7.15pm, really early for a night out but it started at 7pm so we were actually a bit late! The venue was pretty much an average local kinda pub, a bit dark and dingy but the dancefloor was like a separate room and there was plenty of space to brock out! When we arrived, DJ Duracell was playing the first set, with the lyrical talent of MC Element from the N2P crew. The place was pretty empty but there were a few people standing against the wall, nodding their heads and generally appreciating the music.
I’d never heard Shotta before but he was doing a good job of warming the crowd up and MC Element was busting some lyrics (if you’ve never heard any of the N2P lads, you’re missing out!). Duracell dropped some heavy tunes (I’m not that great with names of tunes) and he dropped that phat tune from Human Traffic- you know the one…….. ‘Got any jungle in guy!’ and a few people were starting to move onto the dancefloor. The place was starting to fill up by the end of this set and Duracell finished off by scratching up the dex.
By this time, Mc MRD and DJ Dilemma had just arrived. MRD jumped straight on the mic and Dilemma stepped up soon after. Dilemma played B2B with DJ Wintle and the pair of them teared the place up. Everyone seemed to be feeling the beats and it was starting to get pretty warm in there! Me and Hayley (MRD’s lady) were setting an example on the dancefloor and to be honest, I didn’t even wanna go to the bar, cause they were dropping one heavy tune after another!
I was well surprised that despite the venue and the amount of people there, the place was buzzing and everyone seemed to be having it! I had to keep reminding myself that we were only in a pub!
Mc Petite arrived just before the end of Dilemma/Wintles set and stepped up with MRD. Well, what can I say about this duo? I know I’m gonna be a bit biased but, they never ever seem to disappoint! The pair of them were on top form and even though they’re wicked when they play separately- when they’re on B2B they absolutely smack it up every time!
Next up was Mr Unix B2B with DJ Jocky. If you’ve heard Unix play I’m sure I don’t even need to tell ya that he smashed it- its just standard!! I’ve never heard Unix play an average set- he always fills the dancefloor! But, it was the first time I’d heard DJ Jocky and I was pretty impressed. The pair of them dropped plenty of jump up dnb, which is just what I like and everyone else seemed to be feeling it too. Mc’s MRD and Petite were on the whole way through this set, they seemed to be enjoying themselves, which always helps to get the crowd buzzing.
The DJ Eddy Woo played the last set of the night, alongside the Venom resident MC’s EQ & Marty. Although Eddy played a well heavy set, he doesn’t really play my taste of dnb, even though a couple of his tunes I absolutely love (cheers for the record by the way!) EQ & Marty complimented the music well and as they’re quite well known in Ipswich, I could see a few people were singing along to their lyrics.
I think, the night went on a little longer than it should’ve as it finished by about 11.30. I didn’t hear anyone complaining though- if it could have gone on longer it would have! There was no attitude and absolutely no trouble, which is always good- I think everyone was just there to enjoy the music! All in all it was a really good night, everyone I’ve spoken to said they were pretty surprised and had a wicked time. Hopefully this one will be a regular event and if so, I’ll definitely be attending the next one, hopefully see ya there! So, until then, …… peace, Mrs. Planetdnb x
