The Epidemik Crew Chats With Robbie Dee

The Original Detonator Robbie Dee
Interview with: MC Robbie Dee.  Interview By: Epidemik Crew

Hello Robbie Dee, I would just like to say thanks for taking
the time to chat with us. (not aproblem my friend)

Here's a few questions...

As most of us no you are one of real old skool mc's. Hence you are The Original Detonator. What age did you start to mc then?

I started when i was sixteen the same time i first got behind the
decks but did my first rave set back in 1990 at the age of twenty so im an old git i mean pro at it now lmao

Looking into your background I see that you had a amazing event at Fantazia Summertime, Bournemouth, as you where harnessed and hoisted up over the 16,000. That must have been you most memorial event?

Looking back i feel that may have been the pivotal moment in my carrier,as it was for many others that performed that may night.but it was the preporation that went into that party that i remember the most,I can remember travelling the length and bredth of the country with gideon dawson, one of the co promoters of fantasia at the time visiting virtually every record shop inthe country personally, making sure that this event was going to be the one that everyone who attented not only remembered but talked about for a very long time to come, little did we know that, matchams would go down in rave history as one of the greatest parties that ever took place. The idea of myself being hoisted over the crowd was entirely my own idea as I thought it would be a nice touch to an already awesome night. Though originally I was all for the idea of a jetpack going over the crowd but im sure Dorset Council wouldn't have gone for that idea on the grounds of health and safety (bastards) so yes it was a memorable night for me yes as i still remember every second of it in perfect detail.

You have been in the music scene for a while now; do you think it has changed a lot of the years?

The rave scene has evolved greatly and so has the music, infact its gone full circle in some places, who would belive that in 2007 oldskool would be as big as it was when it was just plain old hardcore back in its glory days of the early to mid nineties (not the hardcore of today which is a whole different box of records).Drum n Bass has evolved into something amazing over the years which I not only enjoy greatly but also play weekly on Wreckless Radio over the internet and on PlanetDnB. Hardcore has matured from its happyhardcore roots and techno will always be techno as it happens, but yes music has evolved and thats not a bad thing, then you have newskool breaks which is a whole new baby brother of oldskool which im just about getting my head around but likin it all the same.

Also we have seen you work along side a lot of well known names like yourself, is there anyone around at the moment
you would like to work along side?

Well I'd like to work with Carl Cox again given the chance as he's still the worlds no 1 dj and well as to anyone else there is
so many not sure on that one, maybe i need to break myself in to the drum n bass scene and work with some of those djs
more, i'll get back to you on that one.

Is there anything new happening for 2007?

Well as you know i won Best Oldskool MC back in may of last year and this year I've been nominated for another one for
ravology so fingers crossed hey who knows, other than that i would like to do another detonation boulevard event to
match the one I did last year along side my friend Keaty, but moneys a bit tight so I'm looking for an investor for my next
project (if anyones intressted get in touch lol)

I know it's early in the year, have you got any events planned for this year yet?

I've got a few major bookings comming up like Raindance, Fantasia in scotland, Inovation in the Sun and Slammin Vinyl at
the Alexandra Palace so I'm gonna by quite busy this year I hope......

Any thing you would like to add?

Yeah id like to take the oportunity to thank all of my fans who suported me over the years and voted for me, making me the best oldskool mc in the uk,big up to all the djs and mcs and ravers and promoters that know me.all my friends on DontStayIn.com and MySpace, and I hope that 2007 is as great for me as it was in 06 and believe me it was awesome let me tell you and big up to Easygroove last but not least

Thank you for your time
