Ok so it's not often a book is written about our industry and usually they are facts and information books, not stories!
Anyway I was sent a book called Rave Story two days before I went on holiday - Bonus! That was my holiday read sorted, no strolling through the tonnes of books at WH Smiths in Stanstead airport!
Anyway I get onto the Easyjet plane and start reading this book. Two hours later im landing thinking where the fuck did those 2 hours get to. I might add my girlfriend was also looking at me with a frustrated look as I had completely ignored her for the duration of the flight. That in a nutshell summed up this book in my eyes. I couldn't put it down until i'd finished it (sadly my girlfriend really wasn't impressed with being ignored for the first 3 days of our holiday - Sorry!)
It's written by a guy called Otiz F. Angel, or more commonly known as Angel. Admitedly I have never heard of him before but now I actually feel like i know the guy really well, and he is certainly somebody I would like to meet after being inspired by his "True Rave Story".
The book is essentially his story from being part of a London gangster firm to becoming a globally well respected and succesfull promoter/producer and club owner, and overall, like myself, a businessman.
This book really has something for everyone, it touches on a lot of lifes issues and is a document of the highs and lows that happen in everybodys lifetime.
If you have ever been into raving, drugs, gangsterism or business this book is well worth a read. It's cleverly written and captivating.
I personally give it a 10/10

Heres the synopsis:
This riveting book details one man's early steps along clubland's sinister Yellow Brick Road. It features characters easily identifiable from that allegoric tale. Angel is no Dorothy however and his own personal road is stained with blood, tragedy, and a curious mix of sex, drugs, violence and morality. His tale propels you from the birth of the UK Rave movement to the club scene of today, through the burgeoning underground gang culture of 1980's Britain and the ever-present struggle of youth against authority. Each page is filled with exhilarating action, yet provides important historic information and a key to the roots of various dance music genres. There is something here that strikes a chord with each post-war generation. The chord is not just an empathy of the soul, it's a musical identification which all of us can understand, whether we be Teddy Boy, Hippy, Mod, Rocker, Raver or Soul Brother. We can all relate to the dance halls, discos or raves of our youth and the pursuit of pleasure.
Our youth is something we live through at the time and often take for granted, full of "firsts" and a plentiful supply of mistakes. We live it with an enthusiasm and energy which amuses, and frequently bemuses us in later life.
Here in these pages we find no self-doubt or regret, but 100% self-conviction and ambition. Angel has not only withstood the often frightening melee of his youth but, surprisingly, has survived it! He has gone on to tap a vein and channelled his experience and ambition into mainstream music production and showmanship.
Music is a constantly evolving process, with branches that reach out to touch the soul and energise our spirits, which in the clubs around the world, unite our youth into a common community, born of their time and living that time to the full.
Jaava is another step in the music evolutionary process. Its inception and development has been overseen by Angel and nurtured to its zenith in clubs around the world.
In this book we witness one man's personal development and almost his salvation. Many of us have dreams, but few of us can realise those dreams. One word we often use in life is luck, another is ruthlessness. Angel has found a word to sum up his career and successes. The word is Love.
“A frank and captivating must-read for all aspiring entrepreneurs and pleasure seekers the world over.”
